This four-session class will be an opportunity to develop your child’s creative writing through in-class readings, writing prompts, and other literary activities. The goal is to give your child’s writing skills a boost, and to encourage self-expression and imagination. At the beginning of each class, we will start by writing to several prompts to loosen up. We will then go through readings (poems, a letter, and stories by Gertrude Stein, Jamaica Kincaid, Rudyard Kipling, Kioni Marshall, Jack Prelutsky, John Ciardi, William Cole, and others) discuss these, and do an in-class writing project that students may continue at home if they wish. We’ll also do some word games, object observations, adjective lists, acrostic poems, and collaborative writing assignments.
In the final class (Feb. 2nd), students will bring in the writing they have done, and we will create small booklets of the students’ work, and there will be a reading for friends and family.
