  1. Hi Readers! Here is a Q&A I put together to explain An Evening With Authors which is October 8th! I hope you will join us for this very special event and please share this email with friends. Book club people especially love this type of evening so if you know of any I would really appreciate the share! Thank you…

Q- Is An Evening With Authors a big book club meeting?

A- NO! An Evening With Authors is most definitely not a book club. The format is that each author will talk a little bit about their book and then i will conduct a panel discussion/entertaining interview with all three. together…while juggling (kidding)
You will either be hearing from a favorite author or meet some new favorites.

Q – So ,do I have to read the books before Oct 8th?

    A- No -see above answer

Q- What can you tell me about the authors?

A- I have been hosting an Evening With Authors for many years and I am always excited about the line-up and the way the authors interact on the panel. I know all three authors very well and for many years. First up, John Searles, is a former student of Ann Hood’s and I hosted both of them at the Providence Public Library this past December and it was a fabulous event. John is hilarious and is quite the dynamic storyteller. He was Cosmo books editor and also appears on the Today show and talks about his favorite books. (literary commentator) You will adore him. Promise. (

Dani Shapiro has appeared on Reading With Robin several times. I am a big fan of her fiction and when I read her memoir, Devotion, I kept her on the phone long after the radio show ended. You can see a clip of Dani from her recent appearance on Oprah’s Super Soul Sunday here – (Dani and John happen to be close friends as an aside)

And Susan Jane Gilman…I could never say enough about this generous, gifted and funny funny lady. She brings chocolate when she visits, we have traveled together, she is a Brown alum. Frank McCourt (Angela’s Ashes) was her teacher and she dedicates her latest -The Ice Cream Queen of Orchard Street to him. Susie is a NYTimes bestselling author – Hypocrite in a Pouffy White Dress is one of my favorite memoirs of all time. (

Q- Where IS this event? I’ve never heard of the Poliquin Group in East Greenwich

A- The Poliquin Group is located at 1598 South County Trail in East Greenwich minutes from the exit off of 95.
This is a brand new facility with 400 well-lit parking spaces, air conditioning, a spacious atmosphere and a bunch of other pluses. It is about 1/2 way between Division and Middle Roads. There will be balloons waving, and a sign that says POLIQUIN GROUP and also LIFESTYLE CAFE (fabulous health-conscious food) You will be able to enter the building in the front and in the back (where most of the parking is) There will be signs directing everyone and people pointing the way as well.

Q- I’m part of a book club, school, library, classroom…is there a group discount?

A- Yes! If you buy 5 tickets you get 1 FREE. So sign up online at
email me at and let me know you bought 5 and I’ll add in the 6th guest. Or you can buy single tickets. This is my annual breast cancer awareness month fundraiser and the money raised is going to ACS Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk. I’ve supported this walk for 18 years.

Q- Will books be for sale?

A- Yes! Bank Square Books will be there selling current titles and some of the backlists and there will be an opportunity to have your books signed after the program.

Q- If I have friends who would also enjoy this event, should I forward this email to them?

    A- Yes, please!

    Q- Why should I attend?

A- Because when everyone is talking about it on Oct 9th and you see all of the fun Facebook photos you are going to be sad. If you have FOMO it’s going to be even worse.

Hope to see you on the 8th!
