When was the last time you were read to? Where? And why? As we gather around the figure of the poet, listening silently, what is it that we’re seeking? Edification? Entertainment? Intimacy? When do we hear the written word spoken lovingly, and in what contexts, and why? Can we reclaim the gulf that lies between a mother’s lap and an author’s ego? What does it mean to share (the intimacy of) reading? How is reading itself an infinite sharing? Stories and texts as points of commune, chainlinks that send emotion, thought, and sensory experience through the eras? So how can we (now) read together?
