31zYWLxnNFL._UX250_Frequency will co-host Colin Channer at the Athenaeum on September 21st, from 7 to 9 pm. Channer, author of Providential, his first collection of poetry, will discuss his writing and sign copies of his book. Previously, he released The Girl with the Golden Shoes, a novella heralded as a “mesmerizing journey” by Edwidge Danticat. Author Junot Diaz has called Channer “one of the Caribbean Diaspora’s finest writers,” while others have referred to him as “Bob Marley with a pen.”

Providential is released by Akashic Books: “Channer’s debut poetry collection achieves an intimate and lyric meditation on family, policing, loss, and violence, but the work is enlivened by humor, tenderness, and the rich possibilities that come from honest reflection.” Read an excerpt here.
