Work Your Read

Engage your audience, have more fun, and sell more books!

Learn how to effectively present your written work (prose, poetry, nonfiction, memoir) in front of an audience through lessons on anchoring your anxiety, relaxation and breathing, choosing the right material, and more. Students will have the opportunity to practice in front of each other and to read their work in public at a Frequency event.

Dates: Thursdays, February 27 – March 26 (no class on March 12) + evening reading event (date TBD)

Prose Poetry

Jump start your writing or add something new to your continued practice by trying your hand at short prose poems.

Through in-class readings, discussion, and workshopping, students will examine the principles that make prose poetry effective and apply them to their own creative work.

Child Selves, Writer Selves

Let memory serve as inspiration in this one day workshop for poets and writers of all levels.

Students will be encouraged to unpack an often overlooked source of inspiration–their own childhoods–and use those experiences to develop four vignettes (prose or poetry) throughout the course of the day that can be adapted for a current project or become the springboard for something completely new.

Instructor: Susannah Morse

Location: What Cheer Writers Club, Providence

Dates: Sunday, April 5

Time: 10:00am – 4:00pm

Tuition: $70

Setting and Style

Transform words on a page into an immersive experience for your readers.

Students will learn about crafting immersive worlds by reading and discussing examples from across many styles and genres, tackling writing exercises, and workshopping excerpts of each other’s writing. Leave this class with a setting for your current work that feels real, necessary and fully developed.
